An unsung hero lives on your street, in your village, town or city; in your workplace and at your local shop or restaurant. Do you know who they are?

Help the Sunday World find young Heroes that you know, and you could win R10 000.

The Sunday World Unsung Heroes project is planned for Youth Month to celebrate young people 35 years and under, who are everyday heroes and help make South Africa a better place to live. These Heroes help develop business, improve life in the community, and lead on the sports field,
in the office, in Government, farming, or in education and health.

Somebody who brings spirit and goodwill and pays forward positively in everything they do.

Our unsung heroes will be extraordinary young people who live their best lives, create change to improve society and innovate fresh ways of doing things. We are looking for those from the coal fields of Mpumalanga to the corn fields of Free State and the towers of the city who work tirelessly for a good and brighter future.

We are looking for young people (aged 18 – 35) who inspire us with their vision, dedication, and hard work. A hero who runs an inspirational project or a forward-thinking organisation. People who take opportunities, who see good where others see gloom and guide society to
better times ahead. These are inspirational heroes who are respected by their peers and rivals alike, and are admired on the sports field, in the community, in health care, arts & culture, academia, government or different professions.

They are leaders in their field, leaders of tomorrow. In June this year, forty-five years since the 16 June 1976 Uprisings, we will honour these heroes.

Sunday World is inviting your audience to join us in recognising these visionaries who remain largely unsung. Anyone can nominate as many people as they like in the four categories. We are seeking nominations from all provinces to present a wide and wonderful snapshot of Unsung Heroes Nominators could win R10 000 in a lucky nomination draw if their Unsung Hero is chosen.

Our selected unsung heroes will be acknowledged in a dedicated supplement in late June, and in a full page on our website that can be seen anywhere in the world. In addition, the SW will host a celebratory webinar event in late June to present the Unsung Heroes live.

Categories:

There are five nomination categories, and you can nominate as many unsung heroes as you wish across all provinces.
Category 1: Young people in business who are creating change in the world of commerce, industry, SMME’s, tech, medicine, research, science, health, agriculture and aligned professions.
Category 2: Community Youth heroes who are leading and others to a better and hopeful future.
Category 3: Heroes in Sport, Arts and Culture: Leaders and changemakers in sport or arts & culture who define themselves through performance, language, writing, music, and visual arts.
Category 4: Youth in Academia: Those who lead in TVET Colleges, universities, and academic endeavour and are inspiring the next generation of scholars.
Category 5: Young people in Government: National, Provincial, and local Government workers who go beyond the call of duty to provide a better life for all.

Entries close on 14 May 2021. You can start nominating today if your nominee is no older than 35 on 30 June 2021 and is over 18 years of age.
